Environmental issues were discussed at UN building

Students and professors of Narxoz University had a meeting in the UN building in Almaty with Bruno Pozzi, who is working as a director of UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) of The Europe Office. Bruno is a diplomat from Belgium, he brings 20 years of experience in high-level diplomacy and politics, across three different continents and in various political and economic roles. He is a strong advocate of multilateralism and of the need to put environment at the centre of political action. Bruno holds a degree in Political Sciences (Catholic University of Louvain) and a Master’s Degree in European Politics (Free University of Brussels).

Through the meeting, our students gained knowledge about the United Nations Environment Programme and the mechanisms dealing with international solutions to sustainability problems in general and local problems in particular. This meeting provided students and professors of Narxoz to reflect on the and remarkable contribution the UNEP has made to the conduct of international relations and problem solutions worldwide. Participants also discussed with Bruno Pozzi ecological issues in Kazakhstan, such as shrinking of Aral Sea and the impact of irresponsible consumption of natural resources.

This meeting was supported in partnership with The Sustainable Kazakhstan Research Institute (SKRI). The mission of the SKRI is to foster solutions driven research and field work which aim to solve some of the most pressing sustainability challenges in Kazakhstan and beyond. Institute commits to teach through action by conducting work of SKRI, students, teachers, civil society, international and governmental institutions in line with the principle of sustainability.
